NEWS AND EVENTS
IN PERSON VISITS:
At this time, we feel it is important to limit face to face contact as much as possible. CASA For Kids has begun slowly transitioning back into in-person visits.
Monongalia and Preston County hearings are now being held in-person.
NORTHWESTERN BACKPACK PROGRAM
This is the third year our local Northwestern Mutual office has sponsored these individualized LL Bean backpacks. They are monogrammed, and filled with a new tablet, blankets, school supplies, shoes, games, water bottles, etc. Most of these children have been removed from their homes, and everything and everyone they know, with no notice-- often with no belongings of their own. These backpacks have a huge impact as these children begin a new school year each year.
NEW TEAM MEMBER ALERT!
We are excited to welcome Bekah Dunaway to our CASA For Kids of Monongalia and Preston Counties team! Bekah graduated in May from WVU with her Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degrees. She'll be working in both counties as the Case Administrator, and we can't wait to see what she will bring to our team!
In 2017, 9 out of every 1,000 U.S. children were determined to be victims of abuse or neglect. Physical abuse and neglect are two of a number of highly stressful, potentially traumatic experiences known as “adverse childhood experiences,” or ACEs. Children who have experienced abuse or neglect are far more likely than others to have experienced a large number of ACEs.

Children who have experienced abuse or neglect fare better with a CASA Volunteer by their side. Studies have shown:
They are more likely to find a safe, permanent home.
They are more likely to succeed in school.
They are half as likely to re-enter the foster care system.
