There is No Place Like Hope

This has been an unprecedented year for all of us. With the onset of COVID-19, no one could have imagined all the changes we would have to adapt to in our lives. However, as we approach the holiday season, we can start to feel excitement and hope for the new year while we recall many happy memories and anticipate the traditions and happiness to come. We hear laughter, we feel love, and we can’t wait to spend time with the family and friends we hold so dear even if it looks a little different this year.

But for a child who has been removed from their home, this time of the year can be terrifying.  They have been taken away from everything and everyone they know and love because of abuse or neglect. They have had to relocate to a new home, new school, attend meetings with a revolving door of adults—all while coping with the trauma of abuse or neglect.

For a child struggling with loneliness, confusion, and a sense of hopelessness, their CASA volunteer is always there for them! A CASA is the child’s voice during this uncertain time. A CASA is a constant positive adult in the lives of children. CASAs spend countless hours working to ensure that the child is placed in a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible so that they will never have to wonder what their holiday season will look like again. A CASA gives a child hope!

Next year holds the promise of endless possibilities for all of us. We are very hopeful for a brighter year and a return to a routine —one that includes being connected with our friends and loved ones again. Our volunteers are resilient, tenacious, and committed to supporting the children we serve. Regardless of what next year brings, we are equipped to handle it with your help. Your gift gives children in Monongalia and Preston Counties a chance to receive the support they need to heal, thrive, and ultimately, get back to being a child again. There is hope for these children, and that hope is you.
